Encryption & decryption tool
Encrypt or decrypt text locally with AES-256, AES-128, Triple DES or DES.
Runs on your device · nothing is uploaded
Legacy algorithm. DES can be brute-forced in hours and Triple DES is deprecated (NIST withdrew it in 2023). Use these only to work with old systems; use AES for anything new.
Two ways to supply the key
- Passphrase: the key and IV are derived from your passphrase with a random salt, and the output uses the OpenSSL
Salted__format. It matchesopenssl enc -aes-256-cbc -md md5 -a. This older key derivation is fast, so use a long passphrase. - Raw key + IV: you give the exact key and IV in hex. Use this to match device configs, test vectors or another program's output.
Which algorithm?
| Algorithm | Key size | Status |
|---|---|---|
| AES-256 / AES-128 | 256 / 128 bits | Strong. The modern standard. |
| Triple DES | 168 bits (112-bit strength) | Deprecated. Legacy systems only. |
| DES | 56 bits | Broken. Can be brute-forced quickly. |
For learning and testing. Everything runs on your device, but for protecting real files use a dedicated tool such as GPG, age or 7-Zip with AES-256, which add strong key stretching and integrity checks.
